- CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST -

BA (UNISA), BA Hons (Psych)(UNISA), MA (Clin Psych)(UJ)
PS0135801  |  PR no : 0746738

My interest in human behaviour is stimulated by the variety of my life journey. My exposure to various cultures and diversity has emphasised that human behaviour is not a “one-size-fits-all” template.

Both my Bachelor of Arts and Honours in Psychology were completed through the University of South Africa (UNISA). My Masters in Clinical Psychology was completed at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). My experience includes work at Headway Gauteng, Helen Joseph Hospital, Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital, and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital's Adult Psychology Unit and the Transplant Unit. Each experience giving me a growing perspective of human behaviour complexity. Working within multi-disciplinary teams at a psychiatric and general hospitals have given me a good foundation for understanding human behaviour and its complexities and management. I have experience working with children at Newton House School as well as experience doing transplant readiness assessments at Wits Donald Gordon Transplant Unit.

Currently I am only providing online sessions on Saturdays and in the evenings.

I work with adolescents, adults and couples.

Treat yourself Kindly, Listen to yourself Gently – Julie Cameron

My therapeutic approach is integrative in nature. I consider the individual holistically and draw from different perspectives to tailor the therapy to their needs. I place importance on being mindful of the role each individual’s environment, spirituality and interpersonal relationships play as well as interact and influence behaviour. I am very conscious of the link between mind and body. Therapy can often be scary and challenging, thus it is my aim to provide an empathic and warm space in which these equally freeing and challenging discoveries can be explored. Through co-creation and reflection it is possible to find healing and growth.

The initial session will be for history-taking and each session will run for 50 minutes. I am contracted into Discovery Medical Aid. Clients on all other medical aids will need to settle after each appointment. My rate is closely linked with medical aid rates. Contact me for more information.

The ultimate goal of therapy… it’s too hard a question. The words come to me like tranquillity, like fulfilment, like realizing your potential     - Irvin D. Yalom

couples therapy

Couples therapy is offered to couples that are dating, engaged, married, life partners or co-parenting. Couples therapy provides a safe space in which difficulties and/or expectations can be explored. The focus is placed on clear communication between each individual with the aim to develop effective communication strategies. The couple are able to co-create and collaborate, in order to work toward a common goal.

adolescent therapy

Adolescence is a vital period in identity formation. It can often be a confusing, frustrating and/or exciting time. There may be periods where the teen may feel like no-one understands them or that they are alone. Individual therapy for adolescents provides a safe and holding environment to explore the demands of growing up, fitting in and finding oneself. Adolescent therapy is offered to those between the ages of 13 and 18 years old. I draw from CBT, DBT, and systemic theory when working with adolescents.

adult individual therapy

Individual therapy provides a collaborative and explorative environment for one’s current or past struggles. Therapy can be supportive in nature or become an in-depth examination of the self. The individual is always considered holistically with a focus on developing self-awareness and insight. Therapy can be short, medium or long-term, depending on the needs of the individual. Adult therapy is offered to individuals from age 18. An integrative approach is used, tailoring therapy to each client’s needs.
